Instrument Sharpening

Dental Assistant Registration courseCourse Director: HAROLD L. MEADOR, D.D.S.
Instrument sharpening continues to be a mystery. Working with dull instruments increase the physical demands on the operator and the discomfort of the patient while providing a sub-standard result. There have been many methods
developed but a method that will provide sharp instruments one hundred percent of the time will be presented. Since it takes only twelve to fifteen strokes to dull a curet, it becomes obvious that chair side sharpening is essential for maximum efficiency.

  • A rationale for chair-side sharpening
  • Thoughts on instrument design / balance
  • Identifying the Working Edge
  • The application of Gracy Curets
